Softball Game Preview: Burney Raiders vs. CORE Butte Lynx

The Burney Raiders will square off against the CORE Butte Lynx at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burney is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.

Burney's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Friday. They put the hurt on Redding Christian with a sharp 14-0 victory. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Mia Perez made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

In other batting news, Alexis Witzel was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Alyssa Hawkins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, CORE Butte fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Los Molinos on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-5.

Burney pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for CORE Butte, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

Burney came out on top in a nail-biter against CORE Butte in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Lynx have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
