Softball Recap: Holy Names Academy's Losing Streak Snapped at Six Games

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Names Academy). Everything went their way against the Interlake Saints on Monday as Holy Names Academy made off with a 21-11 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Holy Names Academy as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Frannie Gimbl was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

In other batting news, Lee Smedstad was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Smedstad is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Delanie Gilda, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Holy Names Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Interlake struck out nine times.

Holy Names Academy's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Interlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holy Names Academy will face off against Bishop Blanchet at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop Blanchet's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Holy Names Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Interlake, they will challenge Lindbergh at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
