Softball Recap: Civic Memorial Takes a Loss

Civic Memorial lost against Waterloo two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Eagles fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 4-3.

Megan Griffith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bella Thien made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Wade, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Civic Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Waterloo, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Civic Memorial will square off against rival Mascoutah at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Waterloo is set to take on their familiar foe Highland at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
