Softball Game Preview: LaBrae Vikings vs. Newton Falls Tigers

For the second straight game, LaBrae will face off against Newton Falls. The Vikings will host the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. LaBrae is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

Last Monday, LaBrae made easy work of Newton Falls and carried off an 11-1 win. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by eight runs or more this season.

Riley Rowe was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vada Allen, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Leah DeArmitt was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

LaBrae was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in five consecutive games.

LaBrae pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Newton Falls, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5-1.

Newton Falls' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: LaBrae has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.1 hits per game.
