Softball Recap: D.H. Conley Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

With a playoff win on the line, D.H. Conley rose to the challenge on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Apex Friendship Patriots. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Patriots back in March, they had to take a 6-2 loss.

Kendall Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 22 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, D.H. Conley's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Caitlin Mendell, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That's the most hits Mendell has posted since back in April. Another was Harper Bradley, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

D.H. Conley's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Apex Friendship, they moved to 19-4 with that defeat, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Coming up, D.H. Conley will take on Wake Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 2.3, the Cougars 1.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Apex Friendship does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
