Basketball Recap: White Oak Gets the Win

White Oak waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They escaped with a win against the West Carteret Patriots by the margin of a single free throw, 64-63. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 71-59 last Monday.

White Oak's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camron Myers led the charge by going 8 of 10 on his way to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Those three steals gave Myers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trevor Highsmith, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards.

White Oak was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Carteret only racked up 11 assists.

West Carteret's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Bell, who posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Murray, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points and five rebounds.

White Oak has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for West Carteret, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Richlands the next time they take the court. West Carteret will host Richlands at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, while White Oak will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
