Softball Game Preview: Northwest Mohawks vs. Huntington Huntsmen

The Northwest Mohawks will face off against the Huntington Huntsmen at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Northwest's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.

Northwest's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Eastern 14-0. The Mohawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Kamryn Journey and Annika Carpenter made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Journey pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Carpenter tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Journey fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4, while Carpenter went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, Abby Throckmorton and Mollyann Runyon did most of the damage at the plate: Throckmorton went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Runyon went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Kendra Bostwick was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Northwest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Huntington came up short against Piketon on Wednesday, falling 24-7. The Huntsmen have struggled against the Redstreaks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Allie Baker and Savannah Bushatz did some serious damage despite the final result: Baker scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Bushatz scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Huntington's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Northwest, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
