Baseball Recap: Maiden Blue Devils vs. Newton-Conover Red Devils
Maiden lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Newton-Conover, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. The Blue Devils blew past the Red Devils 10-4 on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Blue Devils needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Collin Chappel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
