League recap: Perry County Central's offense goes off in victory

Perry County Central led 5A District 8 in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on Letcher County Central. Austin Pray threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 44 yards in the win.

Harlan County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,524 from 3,280. The improvement was the result of 40-13 victory over Whitley County last week.

Jake Middleton was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 136 yards on 22 carries as the Black Bears defeated the Cougars. Teammate Treyvon Long added to the ground attack by rushing for 72 yards.

Beatty was the best wideout in the league this week as Perry County Central beat Letcher County Central. Beatty racked up eight receptions for 187 yards. Tyler Fugate helped Perry County Central's passing attack out by catching four balls for 71 yards.

Justin Haddix's team's Pray and Nathan Pray have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Pray has thrown for 1572 yards this season, while Pray, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 31 catches for 651 yards. Middleton from Harlan County leads the league in rushing with 1486 yards.

The Commodores' Pray needs only 91 yards against Tom Larkey's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 128 carries Pray has accumulated 909 yard this year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Black Bears take on Perry County Central. As it stands, Harlan County is in first, while the Commodores are in third.

There should be lots of points scored when the Black Bears and Perry County Central face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Harlan County comes in having scored 299 this season, while the Commodores have scored 289. The Black Bears scored 40 points last week as they topped the Colonels.
