Volleyball Recap: South Gray Starts off Right with Win over Hodgeman County

South Gray had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They had just enough and edged out the Hodgeman County Longhorns 2-1. That's more bragging rights for the Rebels, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

South Gray had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-18, 25-15.

South Gray's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keagan Mel Eesa Showalter led the charge by getting ten digs and two aces. That's the most digs Mel Eesa Showalter has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonalee Zweygardt, who had 17 assists and three digs.

Coincidentally, South Gray and Hodgeman County will both be playing Bucklin the next time they take the court. The Rebels will head out to face the Red Aces at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Longhorns will head out to face them on Tuesday.
