            Softball Recap: Lakeland Chiefs vs. Western Wayne Wildcats        
        
		
        
        
            Lakeland blew Western Wayne out of the water the last time the pair played, but  on Tuesday Western Wayne got their revenge. The Chiefs fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of  7-5. The Chiefs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their  defeat the last time these teams played  back in April of 2023.
 Olivia Lach was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound,   pitching six innings while giving up  three earned  (and four unearned) runs off   eight  hits. The dominant performance also gave  her a new career-low in  walks (zero). She was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-4 with one  run and one  double.
 In other batting news,  Mick Eremo was cooking despite her team's loss,   getting on base  in three of her four plate appearances with four  stolen bases and two  runs.
Lakeland has also traveled a rocky road recently, having  lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record  this season. As for Western Wayne,  the  win made it two in a row for them and  bumps their season record up to 3-7.
 Coming up, Lakeland will challenge Holy Cross at 2:00  p.m.  on Saturday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their  fourth straight  victory, something the Chiefs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Western Wayne, they will square off against Riverside at 4:45  p.m.  on Friday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least ten  runs  in their last three matches.
