Soccer Recap: St. Francis Comes Up Short

After flying high against Cheektowaga on Friday, St. Francis came back down to earth. The Red Raiders came up short against the Canisius Crusaders on Tuesday, falling 17-0. While losing is never fun, St. Francis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York soccer rankings (they are ranked 350th, while Canisius are ranked 12th).

St. Francis was without their leading scorer, Peter Gow, in Tuesday's match. With Gow sidelined, the Red Raiders had to make some big changes to the lineup. Three players got more time on the pitch than they're used to: Luke Anderson (80), Dominic Insera (80), and Connor Flood (30). The trio had averaged 55.4, 52.3, and 16.7 minutes respectively before Tuesday's contest.

St. Francis' loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Canisius, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1-1.

Coincidentally, St. Francis and Canisius will both be playing St. Mary's the next time they take the pitch. The Crusaders will head out to face the Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Red Raiders will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
