Baseball Recap: San Ysidro Drops Season-High Score on Classical Academy

With a playoff win on the line, San Ysidro rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They walked away with an 11-7 win over the Classical Academy Caimans. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Axel Reyes and Adrik Sanchez did most of the damage at the plate: Reyes went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Sanchez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Reyes has posted since back in April. Manny Torres was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: San Ysidro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory (which was San Ysidro's third in a row) raised their record to 18-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Classical Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-17 record this season.

San Ysidro will head out to face off against Madison at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warhawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Classical Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
