Basketball Recap: Coronado Takes Down Ranked Foothill

On Wednesday, Coronado faced Foothill in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Coronado Cougars blew past the Foothill Falcons 68-36. The Cougars pushed the score to 62-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the Falcons cut but never quite recovered from.

Foothill's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cordet Espinoza, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was AJ Gates, who had four points.

The win (which was Coronado's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-10. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Foothill, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Coronado will face off against Whitney Young at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Coronado's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches. As for Foothill, they will head out to face off against Las Vegas at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
