Recap: Halifax Academy Vikings vs. Lawrence Academy Warriors
After a string of five wins, the Halifax Academy Vikings's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 39-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lawrence Academy. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Halifax Academy of the 41-24 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayden Barlow, who scored 13 points along with four steals. That was a full 37.1% of Halifax Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Madison Crawford was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Lawrence Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Claire Smith, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Hughson, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Halifax Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Lawrence Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Halifax Academy will head out on the road to face off against Rocky Mount Academy at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Rocky Mount Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Halifax Academy in North Carolina (Rocky Mount Academy is ranked 89th, while Halifax Academy is ranked 283rd). As for Lawrence Academy, Lawrence Academy and Christ Covenant will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
