Sunset - Southwest league recap: 5/21/12

With a big week, Durango jumped into the top 25 in the state rankings. Durango moved up from No. 26 in the state all the way to No. 23 thanks to a 0-0 record over the past week. Led by manager Sam Knapp, the Trailblazers are ranked No. 2923 in the nation with an overall record of 17-19.

Sunset - Southwest's longest active winning streak belongs to Bishop Gorman (40-3, 16-0), undefeated over its last eight games. Three of those wins came in the past week, including an 11-1 win over Coronado. Cody Roper led Bishop Gorman's offense with two hits and two RBIs this week.

The Gaels' pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 12 hits and four walks to lead the league in both categories. Bishop Gorman has given up a mere 211 hits on the year, while striking out 231 opposing hitters. Roper is the leader in that category with 53 Ks on the season.

The Gaels's Adam Wozniak led the league in strikeouts this week with six. With 33 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks second in the league.

Joey Gallo was an RBI machine on Thursday, as he knocked in four runs during Bishop Gorman's 9-6 win over McQueen.
