Talented power guard led Sacred Heart to unbeaten record, state title in Connecticut as a junior.

Bruce Pearl just might be the only guy capable of stealing attention away from Auburn football this time of year.

The Tiger basketball coach scored a huge verbal commitment Sunday, landing five-star prospect Mustapha Heron of Sacred Heart (Waterbury, Conn.) in a bit of a surprise.

Evan Daniels of Scout.com was among the first to report the development.

Heron, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound power guard, is rated the No. 23 overall prospect in the 2016 class by 247Sports. He chose Auburn over co-finalists Alabama, Marquette, Mississippi State and St. John's.

As a junior at Sacred Heart, Heron averaged over 22 points and five rebounds per game while leading the Hearts to a 29-0 record and Class S state title. In April he earned third team MaxPreps Junior All-American honors for his efforts.
