Soccer Game Preview: Middlesex vs. Mathews

The Middlesex Chargers are taking a road trip to take on the Mathews Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mathews took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Middlesex, who comes in off a win.

Middlesex proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by three) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Nandua 2-1.

Meanwhile, Mathews was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against West Point, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, Mathews can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 271st, while West Point are ranked 108th).

Middlesex is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Mathews, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Middlesex suffered a grim 6-3 defeat to Mathews when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Chargers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
