Basketball Recap: Christian Vigil's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pueblo South over Pueblo East

Pueblo South fought the good fight in their overtime game against Pueblo East on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Pueblo East Eagles 48-44. The Colts just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Several Colts players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Vigil, who posted 15 points and six rebounds. Vigil has become a key player for Pueblo South: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 15 points, but 5-11 otherwise. Sergio Salazar was another key player, putting up 12 points and seven boards.

Pueblo East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaden Garcia led the charge by earning 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Izaiah Trujillo, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards.

Pueblo South's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Pueblo East, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-7.

Pueblo South has already played their next match, a 74-21 victory against Pueblo Centennial on the 13th. As for Pueblo East, they will square off against Harrison at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
