Basketball Recap: Florence Christian Comes Up Short

If Florence Christian was riding high fresh off their 58-30 takedown of Thomas Sumter Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Florence Christian Eagles fell to the Dillon Christian Warriors 59-54. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 19-10 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Florence Christian lost on Friday, don't look at Taylor Greene. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds. Greene is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last 13 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Minton, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 15 points.

Jackson Outlar continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Dillon Christian, putting up 24 points and eight boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Outlar has scored at least a third of Dillon Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Braxton Cummings, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Florence Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 30.6% in those games and 33% outside of them. As for Dillon Christian, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

Florence Christian has already played their next matchup (against Williamsburg Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Dillon Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-27 defeat against Lamar on the 20th.
