Preview: Vernon Lions vs. Mineral Wells Rams
Having just played yesterday, the Vernon Lions will jump right back in to play the Mineral Wells Rams at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Vernon humbled Bellevue with a 65-31 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Vernon.
Even though Mineral Wells has not done well against Windthorst recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Mineral Wells walked away with a 51-42 win over Windthorst. The victory was all the more spectacular given Mineral Wells' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 503rd, while Windthorst is ranked 185th).
Mineral Wells' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caitlyn Colwell, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Colwell continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Rindy Carter was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
The win got Vernon back to even at 11-11. As for Mineral Wells, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
Things could have been worse for Vernon, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-41 loss to Mineral Wells in their previous matchup back in January of 2022. Can Vernon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
