The Bishop Badgers will head out on the road to take on the Odem Owls at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bishop comes in on eight and Odem on three.
Bishop can't be too worried about heading out to take on Odem: they just beat Incarnate Word Academy at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Badgers put the hurt on the Angels with a sharp 14-2 win on Tuesday. The Badgers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by eight runs or more this season.
Cambrie Rios made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Bishop got a big performance out of Jasmine Ramirez, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Idalis Ramirez also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Odem and Taft, and Odem kept the tradition alive. The Owls blew past the Greyhounds 15-5 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Owls have posted against the Greyhounds since April 11, 2022.
Like Bishop, Odem also got a great game from a two-way player: Aria Bray. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Bray was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Julia Garza was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Alyssa Spurlock was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Odem kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.8.
Bishop pushed their record up to 23-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Odem, they now have a winning record of 15-14.
Odem's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374.
