Basketball Recap: Wekiva Sets Scoring Season-High Against West Orange

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wekiva). They claimed a resounding 69-30 victory over the West Orange Warriors. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mustangs also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Wekiva's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makayla Bell, who posted ten points along with five assists and three blocks. Bell has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Tiana Washington was another key player, going 6 for 8 en route to 13 points and six rebounds.

Wekiva smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Wekiva's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14. As for West Orange, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

Wekiva and West Orange could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Wekiva (ranked 202nd) will meet Timber Creek (ranked 38th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wekiva is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Similarly, West Orange will face off against North Florida Educational Institute at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday down 338 places (396 vs. 58).
