Basketball Game Preview: Robert C. Byrd Eagles vs. Gilmer County Titans

Robert C. Byrd hasn't had much luck against Gilmer County recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Eagles will wrap up 2025 with a road trip to face off against the Titans at 12:30 p.m.

Robert C. Byrd had taken Lewis County down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Eagles were dealt a 58-28 loss at the hands of the Minutemen.

Robert C. Byrd's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kendall Sturm, who posted 11 points, and Jada Sutherlin, who scored seven points.

Meanwhile, Gilmer County came tearing into Tuesday's contest with five straight wins dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 51-38 win over the Panthers.

Robert C. Byrd took a serious blow against Gilmer County in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 75-17. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
