Baseball Recap: Havelock Comes Up Short

Havelock extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-14 in the process. They lost 12-0 to the East Carteret Mariners. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mariners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-1 last Wednesday.

As for East Carteret, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 22-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average this season.

For East Carteret's part, Tanner Wade was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Wade has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Jenkins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times he's played. Sam Humphries was another key player, earning three runs and three stolen bases.

Coming up, Havelock will square off against Swansboro at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for East Carteret, they will be playing at home against Southside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
