Volleyball Recap: Hinkley Starts off Right with Win over Aurora West College Prep Academy

Hinkley had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Aurora West College Prep Academy Spartans by a score of 3-1 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Thunder in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won eight in a row.

Hinkley had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-9, 25-16, 25-13.

Hinkley can attribute much of their success to Yareni Colmenero, who had six aces. Those six aces gave Colmenero a new career-high.

This is the second loss in a row for Aurora West College Prep Academy and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Hinkley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Overland on the 26th. As for Aurora West College Prep Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sheridan at 5:30 p.m. on September 3.
