Softball Recap: Westminster's Losing Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westminster). They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Lions as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Chelsea Brown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Naomi Miranda and Jocelyn Aguilar did most of the damage at the plate: Miranda scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Aguilar scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, Aguilar posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Alexis Pangle was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Westminster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Westminster's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Godinez Fundamental, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westminster will venture away from home to challenge Costa Mesa at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Godinez Fundamental, they will head out to face off against Santa Ana at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Ana will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Godinez Fundamental surely won't give up without a fight.
