Baseball Recap: Weedsport Beats Port Byron for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Weedsport waltzed into their match on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Port Byron Panthers by a score of 7-4. For the Wolverines, this counts as revenge for the 4-2 victory the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Nico Giacolone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. He has become a key player for Weedsport: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.

At the plate, Weedsport got a big performance out of Patrick Whitman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Kameron Buchanan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Weedsport's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Port Byron, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-4.

Looking ahead, Weedsport will square off against Tully at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Port Byron, they will take on Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
