Softball Preview: Ritenour Huskies vs. St. Dominic Crusaders
The Ritenour Huskies will take on the St. Dominic Crusaders at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ritenour took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Ladue Horton Watkins a 15-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Huskies considering their one-run performance the game before.
Tyler Frost made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Frost was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Ritenour got a big performance out of Grace Key, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Key is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Ebert, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Ritenour always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. The last time their OBP was this high was back in October of 2023.
Meanwhile, St. Dominic and Parkway North met for a duel on Tuesday where St. Dominic prevailed. St. Dominic put the hurt on Parkway North with a sharp 18-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.
Like Ritenour, St. Dominic also got a great game from a two-way player: Kelsey Kunz. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Kunz was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Ann Alsop looked comfortable as she pitched an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, St. Dominic got a massive performance out of Brylie Mills, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Madeline Ganey, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Ritenour has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. As for St. Dominic, their victory bumped their record up to 15-6.
