Football Recap: D'Evelyn Takes a Loss

D'Evelyn dropped down to 4-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a blow against The Classical Academy Titans, falling 48-7. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 161st, while the Titans are ranked 35th).

Despite the defeat, D'Evelyn saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Wes Zuniga rushed for 129 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Zuniga showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 58 yards.

As for The Classical Academy, their win bumped their record up to 8-0. Considering they have won six matchups by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jackson Schipfer produced another solid effort rushing for 67 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. Hayden Gustafson also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. D'Evelyn is set to square off against their familiar foe Denver West at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, The Classical Academy will challenge rival Mitchell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
