Baseball Game Preview: Arlington Eagles vs. Gross Catholic Cougars

The Arlington Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Gross Catholic Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Arlington will be strutting in after a victory while Gross Catholic will be coming in after a defeat.

Arlington barely beat Louisville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles blew past the Lions 10-0 on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

The result came thanks to Jackson Stosich's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Arlington's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 4-12 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Peyton Marfisi, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Arlington is 4-1 when Marfisi posts two or more runs, but 2-12 otherwise. Luke Sharp was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Gross Catholic's offense. They lost 13-0 to Skutt Catholic on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the SkyHawks: they've now lost four in a row.

Gross Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Robbie Brennan, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Brennan has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Gross Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Arlington, their victory bumped their record up to 6-13.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Arlington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gross Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
