Baseball Game Preview: West Field Longhorns vs. Weber Warriors

The West Field Longhorns will venture away from home to take on the Weber Warriors at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Field has three straight wins, Weber has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

West Field proved they can win big on Friday (they won by nine) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Salem Hills 9-8.

West Field let Kason Taylor and Tyce Abbott run wild. Taylor got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Abbott went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Abbott is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Garrett, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Field kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Weber scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fremont.

West Field pushed their record up to 14-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Weber, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-15.
