The Fitch Falcons will head out to challenge the Old Lyme Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fitch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Fitch is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Edwin O. Smith, who was ranked 15th at the time (Fitch was ranked 12th). The Falcons fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-1 on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Falcons have lost by just one run.

Hailey Merrill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Fitch saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Gibson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Old Lyme was a bit more limited in their game on Monday. They fell just short of Hale Ray by a score of 4-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Noises: they've now lost three in a row.

Old Lyme's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Fitch, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5.

Fitch was able to grind out a solid victory over Old Lyme when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
