Softball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Schurr's 14th in Last 16 Outings

Schurr's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They didn't even let the San Gabriel Matadors on the board, marking the Spartans' second-straight 24-0 shutout. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matches by eight runs or more this season.

Amanda Gonzalez and Sophia De Santiago were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gonzalez tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, De Santiago struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzalez has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while De Santiago went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Samantha Maldonado was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Amanda Banuelos also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Schurr was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .710. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Schurr is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for San Gabriel, they dropped their record down to 3-15 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

As of now, neither Schurr nor the Matadors have any future games scheduled.
