Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Southwest

Southwest extended their winning streak to five games thanks to a huge performance from Aspen Billeter. The Southwest Roughriders were the clear victor by a 68-44 margin over the Arapahoe Warriors on Friday thanks in part to Billeter, who went 10 for 15 on her way to 29 points. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 16.4 points per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Vanpelt, who posted eight points and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played dating back to last season.

Arapahoe's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Clara Hilker, who put up five points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Hilker a new career-high in assists (three). Suttyn Shafer was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Southwest's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Arapahoe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Franklin the next time they take the court. Arapahoe will host Franklin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while Southwest will host them at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
