Basketball Recap: Cameron Cobb's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Blacksburg over Chapman

It was a proper cat-fight when Blacksburg faced off against Chapman on Tuesday. The Blacksburg Wildcats took a 54-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chapman Panthers. The loss leaves the Wildcats without a win on the season.

Blacksburg's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Cobb, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds. With that strong performance, Cobb is now averaging an impressive 8.8 rebounds per game. Ziyon Harris was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Blacksburg was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Chapman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hawken Smith, who posted nine points and three steals. That's the most steals Smith has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Moon, who put up 11 points and five rebounds.

Blacksburg's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Chapman, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3.

Blacksburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-46 defeat against Union County on the 12th. As for Chapman, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-66 loss against Chesnee on the 11th.
