Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Hugo

Hugo hadn't beaten Antlers on the road since April 6, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. Hugo put the hurt on Antlers with a sharp 20-14 win. Considering the Buffaloes have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Maliki Gillean, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Hugo: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamari Scroggins, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Hugo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.

The victory was the third in a row for Hugo, bringing their record up to 8-10. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.3 runs. As for Antlers, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5.

Hugo will have a chance to go back-to-back against Antlers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
