Softball Game Preview: Costa Mesa Mustangs vs. Westminster Lions

Costa Mesa is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will welcome the Westminster Lions at 3:00 p.m. Costa Mesa has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since February 26.

Costa Mesa came up short against Katella on Monday, falling 16-7.

Meanwhile, Westminster can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over Godinez Fundamental. The Lions' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Chelsea Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero). She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Westminster let Naomi Miranda and Jocelyn Aguilar run wild. Miranda scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Aguilar scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave Miranda a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexis Pangle, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Westminster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Westminster's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Costa Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
