Baseball Game Preview: Lisle Lions vs. Wilmington Wildcats

Lisle is 1-9 against Wilmington since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Lions will head out to face off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.

Lisle is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 13th straight game on Thursday. They lost 10-4 to Yorkville Christian.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wilmington). They blew past Sandwich 13-1 on Thursday. Considering the Wildcats have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Declan Moran was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dierks Geiss, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Wilmington hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sandwich struck out ten times.

Wilmington's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Lisle, their loss dropped their record down to 1-15-1.

Lisle came up short against Wilmington in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
