Softball Recap: Mabel-Canton Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Mabel-Canton's offense. They lost 7-0 to the Southland Rebels on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Rebels: they've now lost eight in a row.

Tylar Wenthold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Mabel-Canton's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Southland, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-2.

Looking ahead, Mabel-Canton will venture away from home to challenge Spring Grove at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.2 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Southland, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Wabasha-Kellogg at 4:30 p.m.
