Baseball Game Preview: Ferndale Yellow Jackets vs. United Lions

The Ferndale Yellow Jackets will head out on the road to face off against the United Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Ferndale is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Things were looking good for Ferndale after they put the first points on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Blacklick Valley by a score of 5-4.

Connor Hrivnak was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Michael Zahurak also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when United challenged River Valley on Thursday. United came out on top against River Valley by a score of 12-7. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Brendan James was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. James was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, James Kordish was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Dmitri Worthington was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Ferndale's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for United, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Ferndale took their victory against United in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 12-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ferndale since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
