Softball Recap: Heritage Patriots vs. Whitko Wildcats

Heritage extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 13-9 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Whitko Wildcats. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Abriyah James was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lucy Buuck, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Whitko, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Heritage since May 16, 2015.

On Whitko's side, Cassidy Skinner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Skinner was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kaylee Adkins was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double. Isabelle Harman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Heritage will challenge Woodlan at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Whitko, they will take on Rochester at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Zebras have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
