South Sequoia recap Oct. 3, 2012
Shafter extended the longest winning streak in South Sequoia this week by beating Taft, 21-19. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Generals.
Shafter moved up to 376 from 412 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Ricky Ishida's team was able to make the jump by beating the Wildcats 21-19.
Taft's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Vaughn Richardson threw for 209 yards and Steven Gee had 121 yards receiving. On the ground Matua Iakopo chipped in 55 yards. Jeremy Harmer helped Taft's passing attack out by catching three balls for 67 yards.
Jarudd Prosser's team's Richardson and Gee have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Richardson has thrown for 1002 yards this season, while Gee, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 33 catches for 733 yards. Bakersfield Christian's Matt Smith leads the league in rushing yards with 807.
A big matchup in South Sequoia this week will be when the Eagles take on the Generals. Bakersfield Christian is currently in third, while Shafter is in second.
Wasco took down Chavez 57-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
