Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Ridgewood's Winning Streak

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Ridgewood can now relate to. They took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Orange Mountaineers on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Maroons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Mountaineers are ranked 11th).

West Orange was led to victory by Rhyan Watt and Anaya Karriem. Watt posted 16 points and eight steals, while Karriem dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. Watt has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last ten times she's played. Kyley Gary-Grayson was another key player, putting up five points along with five assists and five boards.

With the loss, Ridgewood broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.4 points over those games. As for West Orange, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season.

Ridgewood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Orange, they will face off against Morristown on Saturday. West Orange is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.4 points per game this season.
