Softball Game Preview: Champaign Central Maroons vs. Altamont Indians

The Champaign Central Maroons will head out to take on the Altamont Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Champaign Central's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Altamont's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Champaign Central might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-3 to Normal Community, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The loss continues a trend for the Maroons in their meetings with the Ironmen: they've now lost three in a row.

Champaign Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley Helm, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Molly Kloeppel was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Altamont came up short against Mulberry Grove on Wednesday and fell 4-1.

Sophia Long spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.

Altamont has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-9 record this season. As for Champaign Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-3.
