Softball Recap: Kinder Drops Season-High Score on Port Barre

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kinder). They never let the Port Barre Red Devils get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Brianna Fontenot was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 1-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Samantha Hayes, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Eaves, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Kinder's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Port Barre, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kinder will head out to face off against Avoyelles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Port Barre, they will venture away from home to take on Holy Savior Menard at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
