Basketball Recap: Irondequoit Eagles vs. Gates Chili Spartans
There's no place like home for the Irondequoit Eagles, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 70-46 margin over Gates Chili. Given Irondequoit's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Spartans are ranked 564th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the defeat, Gates Chili saw an underclassman step up: Joey Vigerzi scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Vigerzi has been hot recently, having posted 20 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Robinson, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Irondequoit is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Gates Chili, they dropped their record down to 4-12 with that loss, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Irondequoit will be playing at home against the Red Raiders at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Fairport has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 531 points over their last eight contests. As for Gates Chili, they will head out on the road to take on the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Vertus is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
