Baseball Game Preview: Pahrump Valley Trojans vs. Sunrise Mountain Miners

For the second straight game, Pahrump Valley will face off against Sunrise Mountain. The Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Miners at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pahrump Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Sunrise Mountain's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Pahrump Valley took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let Sunrise Mountain get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Vinny Whitney was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tony Whitney, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Andrew Zurn was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Pahrump Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sunrise Mountain only posted a batting average of .261.

Sunrise Mountain dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pahrump Valley, their record now sits at 13-5-1.
