Basketball Recap: Vanguard Academy Beethoven Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Great Hearts Northern Oaks, Vanguard Academy Beethoven was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 61-35 margin over the IDEA College Prep Griffins. The win was a breath of fresh air for Vanguard Academy Beethoven as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Vanguard Academy Beethoven's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Erik Cantu led the charge by going 6 of 14 on his way to 17 points and three steals. That's the most steals Cantu has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendrick Velasquez, who posted 11 points in addition to six assists and six steals.

Vanguard Academy Beethoven's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for IDEA College Prep, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coincidentally, Vanguard Academy Beethoven and IDEA College Prep will both be playing IDEA Quest College Prep the next time they take the court. Vanguard Academy Beethoven will head out to face IDEA Quest College Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while IDEA College Prep will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
