Baseball Recap: Washougal Triumphs

After losing to Hudson's Bay the last time they met, Washougal decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Panthers walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Eagles on Wednesday.

Nash Neumann made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Washougal is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise. Neumann was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Owen MacDonald was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Washougal's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Rowyn Brady, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Washougal hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hudson's Bay struck out 12 times.

Washougal now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Hudson's Bay, they dropped their record down to 6-8 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Washougal will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
